FAQ

Princeton PiggyBack®

Ten Common Mounting Requirements

  • 1. Do not place a tag axle behind the main axles.

The use of tag axle(s) disallowed for truck-mounting. Tag axles increase load capacity when lowered. When raised they increase stresses to chassis while TMFL is stowed.

  • 2. Do not exceed state length or width laws.

The PiggyBack TMFL is not part of the load, but is considered in the overall length of the transport vehicle.

  • 3. Do not exceed 48" from the back tire to the back of the bed.

Exceeding this dimension increased the chance of a rear-tire-to-ground impact, which can damaged the TMFL during transport.

  • 4. Do not allow the Piggy Back to hang lower than recommended.

The bottom surface of the body/bed crossmembers must be at least 48" from ground.

  • 5. You must check the frame structure of the transport vehicle.

The transport vehicle chassis/frame must meet minimum RBM (Resistance to Bending Moment) requirements. Consult Princeton PiggyBack for RBM requirements, per TMFL model.

  • 6. Use counterweight when required.

Failure to do so will result in improper steering and braking control when transport vehicle is empty and TMFL is stowed.

  • 7. Single Axle trucks are generally limited to units weighing less than 4200 Ibs.

Single-axle trucks are inheritely limited for TMFL transport. Overloading rear axle and/or reduced load capacities are major concern. Consult Princeton PiggyBack for inquiries

  • 8. "AII aluminum" trailers should not be specified for unit mounting.

Reinforced composite trailers are recommended. "AII aluminum" trailers require excessive counterweight.

  • 9. Special mast attachments may affect the mounting of the unit.

Items such as fork positioners, extra tall masts, etc. may need special dimensions when installing the mount.

  • 10. Dump body trucks will require special mounting considerations.

Bed reinforcements and tie-downs will be required. Mount kit will need to be built out to create clearance for rear door hardware.
